Government Connect
The NLAWARP continues to engage with Government Connect and a new support package is now available: G3Ctoolkit.net is a "one-stop-shop" for policy guidance and high-level advice, while its sister site: g3Ccatalogue.net has a non-exhaustive list of vendors whose solutions can help you gain CoCo compliance. There is also a Community of Practice on the IDeA Communities website. Please visit www.idea.gov.uk/datahandling for more information.

Sharing is Protecting
Local Authorities (LAs) play a crucial part in making the UK a better place to live through the services they provide. Increasingly, these services are being driven by information systems and their supporting Information and Communication Technology. As more services become available online, our dependency on these systems grows.
LAs working together and sharing information with other WARPs will be a harder target for electronic attack than working alone and therefore the risks against the information systems we all depend upon will be reduced.
The NLAWARP project is not a WARP but is a project to stimulate the creation of multiple LA WARPS. Part of this project will include providing access to established WARPs to stimulate and inform potential WARPs. The National Local Authority WARP (NLAWARP) Project is actively promoting the CPNI WARP concept.
A central facility is also being explored to provide services to reduce the burden of individual LA WARPs, to complement the peer-to-peer cooperation between WARPs.
The most appropriate NLAWARP framework has been identified by engaging with the nine GO regions in England. Third party providers can serve as ‘champions’ to help establish these WARPs.
If you are interested in becoming a champion for an LA WARP then please contact us.
What is a WARP?
WARPs aim to improve information security by stimulating better communication of alerts and warnings, improving awareness and education, and encouraging incident reporting. Membership of a WARP can also reduce the costs of good security.
